December 23, 2004

Hello, everyone. Happy New Year!

Lucinda:   Guess what?  Remember last year I told you that I was disappointed to be in the second place in my school’s cross-country running race. This year, I did it. I won first place! I think I got more practice this year when I ran more with Daddy. Now Naomi started to run with us too in the morning. Sometimes we drag Mom to run with us too. It was fun when the whole family ran together. Like last year, I also played piano at the Holiday Party of Glendale Commerce Association and at our school’s Winter Sing. I felt very special doing it. I still played soccer. Our team won the first place again in the soccer tournament. Oh, at school, I joined the Parkway Student Council and have participated in several activities like fund raising, school spirit day activities, and creating words of wisdom

Naomi:   I started the full-day Kindergarten program (K5) in the Parkway school in the fall semester. Reading and drawing are my favorite. I also started going to Chinese School on Saturdays and participated in the Chinese Reading Club. At the beginning, it’s kind of confusion because the Chinese uses almost the same alphabets as the English, but the pronunciations are totally different. I am also taking the gymnastics class. I love doing somersaults.

Lucinda & Naomi:    Last year we did not get a chance to go to China due to the SARS. But this year we did. We spent almost three weeks there. We went to visit the Great Wall at Beijing, saw the panda bears at the Beijing Zoo. We also went to Wuhan, where my Dad and Mom met at college. We also saw my Grandpa, Grandma, my aunts, cousins, as well as many relatives that we did not know. We did not know we have such a big family!

We then traveled with our aunt and cousin Feng to Yun Nan Province; visited some beautiful places like Li Jiang, Xishuang Banna, and Kunming. We took a lot of pictures. Here are only a few. After that we went to our aunt’s home while Dad went to India for a conference.

In August, we went to Portland, OR and Seattle, WA. We visited our American Grandpa Ted and Grandma Eleanor, and all of their grandchildren. We played very well together and had a lot of fun. We traveled to Mt Hood and saw snow in the summer! We also visited some of my Mom’s friends (Juanjuan and Nisheng). We went to Tacoma (close to Seattle) to see my Mom’s friends Fei and Xiaoli and their two sons. On the way back to Portland we stopped by Mt. St. Helens. Daddy did not go with us, but he went to Portland in October for a conference.
