Peng's Family

Lucinda and Naomi Peng
December16, 2002
Hello, this is Lucinda and Naomi again. Happy holidays everybody! We thought we just sent out our 2001 newsletter not long time ago. We get to write it again so soon?
Lucinda: I started 1st grade in September and got a very good teacher. I really like my teacher Mrs. Shwertfeger. She is my home-base teacher and my high performance reading class teacher. School is fun. I like reading and doing math. The Boxcar Children and the Magic Tree House books are my favorites.

(We love Baby Shamu )

(A Trip to San Diego )
Lucinda: Besides school I have a lot of other activists. I am a Brownie in the Girl Scout, meeting with other girls every other Wednesdays. I joined the Milwaukee Kickers Soccer Club in the fall, practiced soccer every Thursday and playing games with other teams every Saturday. I am in the best soccer team because my coach had formal training in coaching soccer. I continue my piano and Chinese lessons. I also started to take the Go game lessons every Saturday. After Christmas I’ll start my ice-skating lessons again. Oh, I cannot wait. I had the ice-skating lessons earlier this year. I tell ya, it was fun. I still run with my Daddy at least twice a week. Now my little sissy Naomi runs with us too. I won the 2nd place for the cross-county running in my school, and I am going to run for the first place next year.
Oh, I had a nice trip back to China with my Daddy this summer. I stayed with my Aunt and my cousin alone while my Daddy had a conference in Shanghai! This is the first time I stayed by myself without Mommy or Daddy, and among people who cannot speak English. It’s kind of scary at the beginning, but I got used to it in just a couple of days. My Chinese learned from the Chinese School really helped.

(Hey, it’s me the soccer player. )

(Isn’t Mom pretty? )
Naomi: I moved to a new room (Green room) in the fall at my UWM Children’s Center, the same room that my sister Lucinda attended when she was little. I like this new room better ‘cause I can play with bigger kids and have more fun activities. I like to play house, draw pictures, sing songs, and paint. I enjoy reading a lot. If Mommy or Daddy is too busy to read to me, I look at the pictures in the book and start to make up my own stories. But as soon as I see Mom try to record me, I would stop. I don’t want to be recorded. I like the Puss in Boots story. The cat is so smart. I like playing all kinds of games with my bigger sissy. Of cause baby doll is still my favorite.

(I am three now.)
(Happy Sisters enjoying the golden Autumn.)
Lucinda & Naomi: We love playing with Mom and Dad. We really enjoy the family walk around the neighborhood and going to the playground in the summer after dinner. Now it’s getting too cold and too dark to play outside, we have a lot of fun to play tag, ping pong and soccer games with Daddy in our basement. In spring break the whole family went to San Diego, CA. We had tons of fun in Sea World and San Diego Zoo. We loved Baby Shamu, and playing in the swimming pool and the beach. We wish Daddy could find a job in San Diego or at least make an annual spring trip to go there. Our uncle came to visit us from China in Thanksgiving while he had a business trip in the U.S. We had a lot of fun to play with him. In the Halloween weekend, we went to Chicago with Daddy, and met grandpa Ken and grandma Donna, and had went trick-or-treating at the Navy Pier. We just bought a big Christmas tree, and had fun decorating it.

(Uncle came to town)

(Having fun with grandpa Ken and grandma Donna.)
We are so proud of our Daddy. In October 2002 he was awarded the “Excellence in Research Award” by the UWM Foundation and the Graduate School. We are also excited that his book is finally to be out in the bookstore by March of 2003! Oh, we gotta tell you another thing; my Mom is so lucky that she won 2 airline ticket certificates ($300 each) in the raffle drawing of her company’s holiday party. This is just what we need to visit China next summer.

(Daddy won the research award.)
(Merry Christmas, Everyone!)
I think that’s it for this year. We love you!
